TBT Zak Smith

I brought a few random books to the residency for reference. One of them was Zak Smith. Ten years ago Smith and Marlene Dumas were mainstays in my studio, but as time passes new experiences and artists sneak into your practice replacing the old. I first saw Zaks work at the Whitney biennial where he depicted every page of
Gravity’s Rainbow. This was the moment I truly wanted to be an artist.Ten years later it is still an impressive piece even in a book!
